Copy of note sent to Congressman Joseph M. Hoeffel, Senator Arlen Specter and Senator Rick Santorum on Wednesday, March 3, 2004.
Sir:
All of the recent activity concerning same sex marriage has prompted me to write you this message. I want to be sure that if the issue comes to a vote, or it is in your power to control the issue coming to a vote, you know my position.

Sir:
I think the article from the Sacremento Business Journal at http://sacramento.bcentral.com/sacramento/stories/2001/08/27/editorial4.html cogently lays out a number of reasons why we should be persuing the technologies for energy independence.
In my opinion this is a far better way to reduce our exposure to foreign problems than beating the Afghanis even deeper into the stone age.

The article at http://www.msnbc.com/news/590923.asp has prompted me to write you again on this matter. I'm glad to see that the administration is prepared to consider fuel economy as a useful tool in or fight to become energy independent. I hope that you will support increasing the CAFE standards for all vehicles, not just those that have escaped in the past. I feel that it is imperative that we once again need to committ ourselves to energy self-sufficiency through the use of energy efficiency.
In a related vein, I wonder if CAFE will be sufficient for the future? With new types of propulsion systems coming to the market, are we making sure to avoid stepping into the same pitfalls that we've found before? As an example of this, consider fuel cell technology for the production of electricity. A great technology which virtully produces only water as a combustion waste product. As we all know, water vapor is also a green house gas. What studies have been done to compare the effects of the water produced with fuel technology as opposed to the carbon dioxide produced from combustion engines? Is a efficiency standard that looks at miles traveld per gallon of fuel consumed sufficient to make sure that we truly are improving the environment at the same time that we increase our fossl fuel independence? Do we need a different standard that in some way measures the green house effect of a particular technology for each mile travelled?
What do you think?

I would like to add my voice to Diane Feinstein in her proposal that light truck fuel efficiency standards be upgraded to be the same as that of passanger cars and I hope that you will provide her with whatever support you can.

I would like to express my support for INCREASING the fuel economy standards for ALL vehicles made or sold in the United States.

I read an article today at http://www.msnbc.com/news/551570.asp about Ford Motor Company support tying tax incentives for hybrid vehicles to fuel efficiency and would like to voice my support for this concept.
I feel that increasing fuel economy in our automobiles is an important national goal and the proposed credits in addition to increasing the fuel effiency requirements under CAFE are important steps in achieving this goal.
Do you remember the Gulf War? Do you remember the Senate hearings that were going on just before the war broke out? That's right it had something to do with the Savings and Loan bailout. Do you remember who was being deposed at the time? I don't, but I do remember it was one of the Bush boys. Was it George W.?
After checking The Center for Responsive Politics, PollingReport.com and Slate; I found that the Bush involved in the S&L thing was Neil. I also found that he was found to have done nothing illegal.

Well, this has certainly been an interesting
election!!!
From all that's happened I have learned the following (in
no particular order):
I hope that will provide some impetus to overhauling the way ballots are cast to avoid this type of problem in the future.
Your opinion is always welcome. Write to me at boris@kortiak.com
